Welcome to Estifito F.C.

New home for my football chatter

After some thought about the naming of my football blog, I felt it better to have the site title reflect my persona/name to better exemplify my personal thoughts on games, transfers, and all other things related to the game and the teams I care about most.

Why Estifito?

Years ago I met a group of friends from Spain. In short, they pronounced my name in this way, and in turn, began addressing me in the phonetic equivalent thereafter. It kind of stuck, and since meeting my wife, who is also Spanish, I’ve taken the persona as my own, semi-professionally.

What can you expect from this blog?

You’ll likely hear my thoughts on various teams and topics surrounding them, such as my thoughts on an upcoming match, a previous match, or my thoughts on how the team can improve their roster or develop for the future.

Valencia CF

Like many Americans in my generation, it was difficult to find a club to support as a child. Most games weren’t broadcast on TV unless you had a crazy expensive cable plan that had Gol or some other channel. I ended up following various teams around Europe, pretty much one per country.

That said, my favorite team in Spain was Valencia. I love the bat, the colors, and more importantly I had met a few friends from the city. I loved their passion for the club. As time passed, I met my wife, and I began watching more La Liga football. Naturally, I followed Valencia. Ten years later, here I am.

Team USA

Though we don’t have the richest football culture or history, I cheer passionately for my country. The little history we do have is wrapped up in the women’s game, who are by far, the best federation on the planet. I am proud of that. I hope one day the men can emulate that success and make the United States a global power in both men’s and women’s football.

Seleccion Espanola

I suppose we all need a successful team to cheer for when large tournaments are at play. Naturally, with strong family connections to Spain, I’ve adopted them as my own. When I watched Spain play the United States at the FIFA Women’s World Cup this summer, it was heart wrenching to endure. I came on board just in time to witness the glory of the great men’s triumphs from 2008-2012. It was an exhilarating ride along with my wife.
