Rumors, rumors, and more rumors. That’s all summer tends to be for football fans. You can’t take much seriously unless the whispers have been on for a few days or weeks. The rumor mill would have you believe Hirving Lozano is on his way to Mestalla, but that’s just DiMarzio pumping the Italian presses. We’ll see on that one. Here are a few things that are done and a few things to keep an eye on.
Maxi Gomez is done.
Yeah yeah, we all know, this is old news by now. Maxi Gomez will be playing in Valencia next season as Che sent Jorge Saenz to Celta on loan and swapped the Uruguayan for Santi Mina. It’s a big deal, and the more I contemplate it, a good move for Valencia. I think Santi Mina maximized his potential at the club and it’s best for him to seek greener pastures. He’ll be better off at Celta. I think the same is true for Gomez. How much can you do when your club is on a roller coaster with talent. He clearly needs the support from better players, something that Valencia should be able to offer on a consistent basis.
Nabil Fekir is leaving Lyon, but where to: Valencia, Betis, someone else?
Fekir had a huge 17/18 season, scoring 23 goals and racking 8 assists. Last year was much more modest, only scoring 12 goals, much closer to his 16/18 tally (14 goals). He’d make a solid attacking midfielder, but I’m not sold on his position as a second striker in the Valencia lineup. Especially if the talking price is €30M.
Embed from Getty ImagesProbably moot, he’ll likely end up at Betis, which could be a decent fit. I still believe he’s overpriced based on his numbers.
